The Sounds that Make Up a Language

In this post, I want to explain and demystify "phonics". I know that learning a language is really difficult and takes a lot of effort. So when confronted with the frustration of not quite reaching the level of speaking proficiency you desire, why not consider phonics. It might be your breakthrough.

What is Phonics?

In short, the study of sounds related to language.

Phonics is a method of teaching reading and spelling that emphasizes the relationship between sounds (phonemes) and their corresponding written symbols (graphemes). It involves teaching learners to associate sounds with letters or letter groups and to use this knowledge to decode words when reading and encode words when writing. Phonics instruction typically starts with basic letter-sound correspondences and progresses to more complex spelling patterns and word structures. Phonics is widely used in early literacy education as it provides a systematic approach to help learners develop strong decoding and spelling skills. For example, when at school we "sound out words" or guess spelling "by the way it sounds".

These two questions are answered in my YouTube video:

What's the difference between the alphabet and phonemic sounds?
