Did you enjoy celebrating Women’s Day this weekend? I admit that I received many messages, emails, and social media posts in honour of the occasion. I also saw coverage of women’s marches and heard the powerful voices of those protesting for equality. It made me reflect on the diverse conversations I had with clients and friends about the topic of women and equality.
The more I thought about it, the more I realised how important it is for us to be able to express our different opinions and ideas on important issues.
Back to the example of Women's day; while some people passionately advocate for more sweeping change, others may feel that sufficient progress is already being made. Sometimes people may approach the conversation from different cultural, social, or generational perspectives.
I found it fantastic that so many people had opinions and felt free to speak up - or in some cases shout and make a noise.
What struck me is that we have reached a point in time in which we can have this loud diverse discussion in safety. I know that my grandmother's generation would not have experienced the same liberty. It was both interesting and touching to hear so many voices, each with their own unique story and perspective. What did you think of the conversations around you?
One thing is certain: we all need to feel comfortable expressing ourselves. Do you feel confident enough to express your opinion? If you don't, what's holding you back?
No matter what your opinion is, it’s important to create space for dialogue, respect, and understanding. The more we listen and discuss, the more we learn.
So, as we move forward, let’s continue supporting each other in finding our voices and embracing the beauty of diverse perspectives. It’s how we build a more equal and inclusive world.
